THERMOSAFE® – ATEX/IECEx induction drum heater

The THERMOSAFE® is an induction coil fully encapsulated in a glass-fibre-reinforced resin cylinder, developed for the chemical industry. It is lowered over the drum, without contact: the alternating magnetic field generates heat directly and evenly in the drum wall. There are no hot elements and the heater stays cooler than the drum it heats.

Why choose it

• Safe: no hot elements and encapsulated electrical components, so it can run unattended, even overnight, and in hazardous areas. Accidental spills do not create a fire risk.
• Efficient: approx. 2.25 kW at steady state; independent measurements show savings of over 50% compared with radiant heaters and over 90% compared with drum ovens.
• Fast: it uses the entire drum wall; a viscous organic liquid rises by approx. 15 °C per hour, 2-4 times faster than in an oven.
• Clean and maintenance-free: IP66, smooth surfaces, no moving parts; it can be hosed down. In use in over 60 countries since 1985.
• Flexible: it is used at the point of use with pumps and mixers in the drum, to melt the edge of solid product or recover residues; three THERMOSAFE units can replace a 20-drum-per-day oven.

Control and handling

The maximum temperature is self-limiting and depends on the material in the drum: in most cases no other controls are needed. Where they are, there are the BF400A power regulator (in the safe area) and the ProxATEX ATEX controller with magnetic probe. For handling, there are the lifting frame with winch, the forklift attachment and the lifting bar; the rigid or soft Top Hat reduces heat loss.

The THERMOSAFE Type B (110 V, reduced height, stackable) is available on request. Combined with the FARATHERM plate, the melting time of a wax is reduced by approx. 40%.
